HEADLINES: A High-Flying Chevy C10 With Duramax Power
It doesn’t get much better than watching a mega truck fly through the air, does it?
It doesn’t get much better than watching a mega truck fly through the air. Throw a Duramax under the hood and you practically own every show you make it to. After killing three engines, a turbo and snapping three input shafts in only four events in 2022, Jordan Healey (perhaps better known as “Joe Fly”) pulled out all the stops this year. After enlisting help from Wagler, Bassi Automatics, RCX Offroad, Monster Truck Source, Overtime CNC Performance, Standaloneharness.com by Ken Wolkens and Dmax Swap, he has himself a hot-rod that’s capable of soaring through the air and turning out four-digit horsepower in a rock-solid reliable manner. You can can find this crazy canuck in action at Melbourne Mud Madness in Melbourne, Ontario on August 26.

Rocky Top Prep
Rocky Top Diesel Shootout 10 is fast-approaching, and nothing says “down-to-the-wire” quite like a complete engine build days before you hit the track. Luckily, Mitchell Wicklund and the folks of Maverick Diesel have entrusted LinCo Diesel Performance with their Cummins build. Destined for duty in the 5.90 Index category, the deck-plated 6.4L will be equipped to handle everything Mitchell sends its way at Crossville Dragway this weekend. He’s currently sitting fourth place in ODSS points, and with three events left on the 2023 schedule remains within striking distance of front-runner Jerry Parrot and Brett Marcum.

Tracks Closing Down Across The Country
It’s a growing trend taking place across the country: drag strips are closing down left and right. Following the devastating news that legendary Bandimere Speedway will end its 65-year run after this race season, storied Atco Dragway announced an immediate closure of its track (and the cancellation of its remaining schedule) after 63 years. Then comes another closure, this one near and dear to the diesel community. Emerald Coast Dragway, the small eighth-mile facility in Holt, Florida recently sold (for a rumored $4.7 million). All we can say to all of this is to support your local drag strip. Be a spectator, race, or sponsor a class. If you don’t, drag strips everywhere will continue closing up shop.
Tractor Pulling
Will This Tech Trickle Down To The Trucks?
Many diesel truck pullers certainly hope it does! Chaos Fabrication, a premiere machining and fabrication company in the pulling industry, has been knee-deep in developing a gear drive front pump drive system for DT466 and big-block John Deere applications. The elimination of belts means less complexity, fewer failure points, and especially no more wedge hubs for the balancer. Designed for Super Stock, Pro Stock, Limited Pro Stock and Light Pro Stock applications, it’s a complete system from the rear of the front cover to the pumps, that fully encloses the damper in an aluminum housing and drives the gearbox for the pumps. A major benefit will be removing the unnecessary load placed on the crankshaft by belts.
