HEADLINES: Cummins-Powered F600 Brings $500K At Barrett-Jackson
The Cummins-powered ’56 F600 from PRI brings $500K at Barrett-Jackson, a small handful of turnkey, competition-killers are up for sale, and a diesel puts on a show in the world’s second-fastest radial tire drag racing class.
Remember the showpiece parked at the D&J Precision Machine booth at PRI? It recently rolled across the stage at the Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson auction and one lucky bidder valued its worth at half a million dollars. Born at Classic Car Studio, the frame-laying, air-ride ’56 F600 sports a D&J Street Performance series 6.7L common-rail Cummins, a Firepunk Diesel 48RE, a Porterbuilt Fabrication front subframe and a rear four-link with Ridetech shocks, and a well-dressed, Relicate leather customer interior that’s just as nice as the exterior. It’s rumored that some 5,000 hours of labor were poured into the one-off build.
The Modified Classifieds
Turnkey, Championship-Caliber Cummins
In the mad scramble before diesel drag racing and truck pull season kicks off, some of the strongest-running trucks in the nation are up for sale—and they don’t get any more top-caliber than this one. Mark Rojee’s ‘07 Dodge Ram brought home the ODSS 5.90 Index championship last year (and Rod MacMaster claimed a trophy a few years before that). Now, the shortened, full interior standard cab is listed for $80,000 or best offer. For a truck that can run the number in ultra-repeatable fashion, it doesn’t get any more “bang-for-the-buck” than this. Of course, we doubt Mark is leaving the diesel drag race scene. Look for him to show up in something even quicker in the future…
Front-Running, Pro Street (2.6) Puller
In a surprising move, Nick Zaenkert listed his 8,000-pound, Pro Street Dodge coined “High Stakes” for sale. What isn’t surprising is that the truck’s sale is already pending. It’s a truck fresh off of winning the COTPC points championship last year, not to mention the fact that it placed first in a 45-truck field at Diesels In Dark Corners back in November. For $75K, someone is getting a truck that could easily do it all again in 2024. Nick’s third-gen sports an ’09 chassis and fully-trussed frame, a Freedom Racing Engines 6.7L Cummins, the latest Hart’s turbo (2023), a Pro Fab NV4500 with a four-disc Kenny’s Diesel clutch, and full PSC hydraulic steering to name a few items. Nick will make his return to the dirt aboard a 3.0 truck in the Limited Pro Stock class.
A Bit Of Unfinished Business
Joe Virgilio’s loss is your gain. His small tire, no-prep Chevy is being sold as a 99-percent rolling chassis, only missing the Duramax, wiring, and driveshaft you’ll need to go racing with it. The nearly-finished half-ton is equipped with a Sun Coast TH400 with bolt-together converter, fabricated 9-inch with 40-spline axles, and a Fast Chassis-built four-link, roll cage, and front-end with manual rack. The truck also comes with a core LLY Duramax engine and a GT55 from Forced Inductions already in place. For roughly $30,000, it’s the perfect foundation for someone who wants to go fast.
Race Recap
What Happened At Lights Out 15?
Diesel’s presence is on the rise in radial tire drag racing, and over the weekend some of the industry’s heavy-hitters competed in Limited Drag Radial, X275, Pro Truck N/T, and even Pro 275. Jared Ring’s Cummins-powered Cadillac ATS-V—the wild build we helped break the news on last week—competes in the latter category, and its big unveiling took place at South Georgia Motorsports Park. With less than a week’s worth of runtime on the fresh build, the Ring Racing team made the Pro 275 field, turned up the heat with a 4.09-second pass at 181 mph, and earned a first-round win. So, despite a minor valvetrain gremlin keeping the car from lining up again, huge progress was made during its first outing.
