HEADLINES: Bean’s Blackout In The Country Event Comes To An End
A junkyard 6.0L built for burnouts, 3,200 hp dyno pulls, and a mainstay diesel event becomes a thing of the past.
We can’t believe it either, but as of 2024 the folks at Bean Machine (Bean’s Diesel Performance) will no longer host their annual event, Blackout in the Country. The middle Tennessee affair was known for its sun-up to sundown dyno competition, dirt drags, open burnout pad, and nighttime truck pull—all of which were jam-packed into a one day melee of horsepower, burnt rubber and dirt-slinging. We had the pleasure of attending the show in 2019, along with 2,500 other spectators. Bean cited costs, permits, and inflation as key factors in the cancellation of its long-running, one-of-a-kind event. Like thousands of others, we’ll miss it.

Race Rebuild Repeat’s New Tire-Shredder
Speaking of burnouts, who knew DNR Customs‘ Derek Rose, owner of the fastest 4×4 diesel truck in the world (a Cummins-powered Dodge), had a soft spot for 6.0L Power Strokes? The Wales, Michigan shop owner recently kick-started a project with YouTube sensation, Race Rebuild Repeat, and it’s based on an ’05 Super Duty that was picked up for $4,000. One high-pressure oil leak fix and FICM fuse later and the 6.0L fired off, ready for abuse. Plans for the “Burnout Truck” entail a set of O-ringed heads, a hood stack, and a host of parts from Fleece Performance Engineering. Don’t miss it! Cruise on over to their YouTube page and subscribe.

If This Exhaust Manifold Could Talk…
Race prep is in full swing with the upcoming season right around the corner, and ODSS Pro Street champion Justin Zeigler has even added polishing to his to-do list. If this exhaust manifold could tell a story…it would say that it’s been part of a record-setting, 3,336hp effort on the chassis dyno, won back-to-back U.C.C. events, and played an integral part of an ODSS Pro Street championship last year. Justin’s Stainless Diesel competition T6 unit was just treated to a repolish at its creator’s and is headed back to work—in conjunction with a 98mm Stainless GT55.
3,238 HP From Firepunk’s Duster
A few weeks ago, the guys at Firepunk made a little fire on the dyno, but in the process they hurt a piston. Now fresh back from a host of changes, Firepunk scheduled a rematch between its Pro Mod and the hub dyno. This time, the Duster laid down 3,238 hp with no ill side effects. So what changes were made? How about 9 degrees less timing, bigger, quicker-firing injectors, a 143-degree spray angle (vs. 128-degrees before), small bowl pistons instead of wide bowl versions, and the addition of an air-to-water intercooler. It’s also worth noting that their Pro Mod turned out a fuel-only, 2,020 hp. Is it race season yet? 3. More. Weeks!

Bumping Up To Super Stock
So what’s it like campaigning two (yes, 2) Super Stock diesel trucks? One word: Fun. That’s exactly what Keith Witt will be doing in 2024, after the second-gen known as “Cross Wired” makes the jump from a 3.6-inch Pro Stock to a multi-turbo Super Stock. The new, two-stage turbo arrangement is set to debut at The Pullers Championship on May 17th in Nashville, Illinois. There, at The Track at Holzhauers, Scheid Diesel’s Brady Ingram will climb behind the wheel and handle the driving duties. Cross Wired will join Witt’s purpose-built Super Stock Ram, “American Pride,” the truck that took First Place at this year’s National Farm Machinery Show.
