HEADLINES: DDP’s Common-Rail Super Stock Puller
The height of truck pulling season, a billet, 4-second Cummins goes on the market, and an inside look at the fire damage on Stainless Diesel’s Pro Mod Corvette.
It’s obvious that common-rail technology has taken hold in diesel drag racing. In fact, it’s all but taken over in the fastest racing classes. But what about the top tiers of truck pulling? At the top of the mountain in Super Stock, mechanically injected Cummins power plants still reign supreme, but Dynomite Diesel Products’ Lenny Reed may be looking to change that. His second-gen puller was spotted out in the wild recently, and it’s a beauty. A TIG-welded tube chassis frame accommodates an SCS reverser and drop box, as well as independent front suspension. That’s right, this cut tire’d beast will sport IFS (built around the use of an AAM 1150 differential). When we know more, so will you!

The Height Of Dirt-Slinging Season
Speaking of Super Stock Diesel Trucks, Scheid Diesel’s Kent Crowder is off to a fast start in 2024. Halfway through the 2024 PPL schedule, his triple-turbo, all-billet Cummins leads the points race, with Erik Stacey’s Smoknya HD remaining within striking distance. The PPL circuit brings these 4,000hp monstrosities to the Elkhart County 4-H Fair in Goshen, Indiana on Wednesday and Thursday night. After that, they’ll roll through southwest Indiana the fourth weekend in August for the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza. As always, we’ll be in attendance for that always-entertaining, 2-night affair at Wagler Motorsports Park.

An Old-School Sled Puller Is Up For Grabs
You might know the name Brandon Overmyer from the monster truck world, where he owns and pilots the American Outlaw, a ’69 Dodge monster truck powered by a 5.9L Cummins. But you might also remember him from his days as an avid truck puller. At the present time, his ’96 Dodge is up for sale. For $45,000, the buyer gets a truck capable of competing in the Limited Pro Stock (3.0 smooth bore) category and a one-of-a-kind 5.9L that was actually the first Cummins fitted with a set of SMT rockers and an SMT one-piece valve cover. The second-gen also sports a Hamilton Cams head, a 13mm P-pump from Northeast Diesel Service, an NV4500 equipped with a Kenny’s Pulling Parts & Machine triple disc clutch, an NV271 transfer case, a 20-145 rear axle, and a Racepak data logger.
Billet Cummins For Sale
It’s the engine that beat the fastest full-size truck in the world, and it can be yours for $52,000. The billet LSM/Wagler Cummins that previously powered Jared Ring’s ’15 Ram, an N/T truck known as “Frosty 2.0.” Fresh out of Freedom Racing Engines’ Pittsboro, Indiana machine shop, the LSM block houses a Winberg crankshaft, D&J Precision Machine X-beam rods, narrow bowl, 4-ring Diamond Racing pistons, an Aviaid oil pump and pan, a 220/240 roller cam, and a cylinder head with 1.50-inch diameter valves. The sale will free up funds for Ring Racing‘s next engine, so stay tuned for news on that in the future as well.

Assessing The Damage On Stainless Diesel’s Pro Mod Corvette
Only days after the fire that destroyed Johnny Gilbert’s Pro Mod in Bowling Green, the Stainless Diesel team was busy tearing into the car, assessing the damage and hoping to determine the cause. In a 12-minute video posted to Facebook, Johnny walks the viewer through the damage: the explosion that blew out the firewall, the melted shifter and fire bottle handle, the driver side of the car (which suffered the majority of the flame damage), and the missing driver side door. The video also shows that one parachute was apparently on fire as it deployed, that the safety pin was pulled on the fire suppression bottle (the system just simply couldn’t extinguish the fire), and that both the oil tank and fuel cell are ballooned out, the fuel tank having split. Johnny also explains how he managed to escape the cockpit as quickly as possible despite the flames. You can view the full video here.
