Blown Into Oblivion
Engine carnage, giant turbos, grudge racing, and last-minute prep for the biggest indoor tractor pull in America.

When you play with fire, sooner or later you end up getting burned. After throwing 300cc/200-percent nozzle injectors, an S369 SX-E turbo, aggressive tuning, and a heavy right foot at this stock bottom end 7.3L Power Stroke, its owner experienced one of the most catastrophic engine failures we’ve seen in a while. A windowed block and oil pan, bits of pistons and piston oil squirters scattered throughout, a destroyed cam, and even a wrist pin that’d been sheared in half (vertically) sum up the total loss. Eco Diesel & Auto Dynamics, a shop known for building high-end 7.3L’s, performed the teardown, and the folks there are already in the process of piecing a new engine together. Next time, the customer will be able to enjoy his [estimated] 600 hp (and likely 1,200 lb-ft) setup reliably.

Who Will Win?

Ready the popcorn. Thanks to encouragement from fellow racer, Brad Helton, a heavyweight grudge race is fixing to go down at U.C.C./Outlaw Diesel Revenge this May in the form of former UCC and ODSS champion Justin Zeigler going head-to-head with Nathan Wheeler and his street racing Super Duty. It’s a pair of D&J-built, Enforcer series Cummins power plants lining up under the Friday night lights. It’s Exergy vs. S&S on the fuel side, Bosch vs. MoTeC for control, Stainless vs. Hart’s for boost, and Nitrous Express vs. Nitrous Outlet on spray. Justin’s ’06 Ram has been 4.74 in the eighth. Nathan has gone 4.93 in the past, but that was back when his build was brand-new (so much more could be left in the tank). Who are you betting on?
Performance And Safety Updates Among Jelibuilt’s 4-Second Plans

We love it when a plan comes together. The latest rendition of Brian Jelich’s 7.3L-powered 2000 Super Duty—the full race version built with 4-second intentions—will sport one of the cleanest nitrous arrangements you’ll find, thanks in part to this billet-aluminum nitrous manifold from Snyder Performance Engineering. Other updates made in anticipation of the 2025 race season include new Kirkey Racing head supports and a fresh 5-point race harness. Relying on a new, Kill Devil Diesel-built engine, Brian has his sights set on breaking into 4-second territory for the first time in 2025.

Last-Minute Prep For Louisville

Talk about crunch time! Just days before the Championship Tractor Pull is set to kick off in Louisville, the folks at Slama Enterprises are still on the dyno. Full disclosure, this image was captured on February 5th (but that’s still cutting things pretty close). We can only hope the Slama’s found what they were looking for… You’ll hear this engine wind up Thursday evening when Tyler Slama attempts to send the “Fast and Furious” John Deere into the sand pile. Of the 24 9,300-pound Super Farm drivers invited to the prestigious indoor affair, only eight will advance for a shot at glory on Saturday night.

Is This The Biggest Single A Street-Driven Duramax Has Seen?

With enough nitrous anything will spool, right? Meet Neal Driedger’s new 110mm turbo… Rather than suffer engine failures due to his former compound arrangement, Neal decided to expose his LBZ Duramax to less abuse by switching to a remote-mount, big single from Forced Inductions. The hundred pound snail mounts thanks to a repurposed turbo pedestal off of a compound kit intended for an LML, and Neal’s co-workers at All In Truck Performance, along with friends Colton Biba and Jorge Hiebert Jr., lent helping hands in making everything come together. Don’t mind the wastegate piping… It remains to be seen if Neal will need it or not. One thing is for sure, though. If the turbo lights, few will be able keep pace with this classic body Silverado.
