World’s Fastest 4×4 Duramax
The 4×4 Duramax record changes hands, WP Developments breaks ground on a Super Stock pulling project, and we take a look inside a 1,500 hp, SPE-built 6.7L Power Stroke.

Someone’s been doing some testing, and that someone is Dustin Sterling. Friday night at Texas Truck Showdown Dustin lit up Evandale Raceway, breaking the record for the world’s fastest 4×4 Duramax—and he did it twice! First, Dustin’s recently reworked ’07 Silverado put up a 4.80-second eighth-mile at 150 mph. Roughly 90 minutes later, the truck went 4.79 at 152 mph. It’s proof that all of the changes he’s made were for the better, and by the looks of it Dustin’s Bow Tie might even be on the verge of cutting 1.1-second 60-foots. Truck Source Diesel, DHD (who built the engine), SoCal Diesel, S&S Diesel Motorsport, Fleece Performance Engineering and Hot Shot’s Secret are just a few of the names involved in Dustin’s record-setting race program.

WP Developments Is Going Sled Pulling

Brace yourselves, WP Developments is going sled pulling—and they’re going straight to the Super Stock/RWYB class. With a customer itching to hook against the biggest and baddest competition in the nation, the transmission experts northwest of Indy have been tasked with sourcing a suitable candidate and making it track-worthy. So far, we know that the second-gen shown (which has been coined “O-Line”) is destined to receive a deck-plated, Hamilton block Cummins, a 16mm P-pump from Hart’s Diesel, and a reverser and drop box setup with a four-disc, weighted clutch. Give them a follow on social media to see how this project develops.

Eliminating One Of The LB7’s Biggest Weak Links

Before Wehrli Custom Fabrication goes racing with its ’01 Silverado short bed this summer, the LB7 that powers it is receiving a performance once-over. At the top of the list, the guys at Wehrli are addressing the first generation Duramax’s tendency to push injectors cups, which pressurizes the cooling system. To eliminate the injector cups for good, WC Fab grabbed a set of Fleece Performance Engineering’s Freedom series cylinder heads. These heads feature a cupless injector bore, a design that not only rules out potential coolant leaks but that simplifies installation, saving you both time and money in the long run.
SPE & Hot Shot’s Keep A 6.7L Power Stroke Alive at 1,500 HP

The fact that these bearings look this good after four years of racing in the dirt, in the 7.70 Index class, the 6.70 Index class, and even the 5.90 Index category proves that Snyder Performance Engineering builds one heck of an engine. This rod bearing served time in Brad Helton’s 6.7L Power Stroke—and all of them look like this (as do the mains). In 2024, Brad’s engine kept him competitive in 5.90 all season, even sending his Super Duty through the eighth-mile in 5.85 seconds at one point. Hot Shot’s Secret provided the other key ingredient for bearing longevity at high-horsepower: 20W-50 Adrenaline R5 racing oil.

Radials Under The Lights

We knew Snyder Performance Engineering was going to remain heavily involved in the Outlaw Diesel Super Series, even after having to cancel the SPE Outlaw Finals event this September. Instead of hosting an event in 2025, SPE is sponsoring Friday night radial tire races. That’s right, radial tire racing will be held every Friday night at all ODSS events this season. It’s $150 to race (the more that enter, the more money you win), with a $1,000 win minimum and first round call-outs allowed. Racers are limited to a 275 radial or 10.5 slick, but any fuel type will be permitted, which opens the door for some great diesel vs. gas action as well as the expected diesel on diesel races.
