Holy Grail Hummer: A Duramax-Swapped H1

The ultimate H1, 11-second quarter-miles with a stock turbo L5P Duramax, NHRDA vs. ODSS, and the latest Power Stroke heads on the market.

Hummer H1 Duramax Swap Diesel Conversion 4x4 Allison Transmission

It’s the engine swap every H1 owner wants, and General Truck Repair just made it happen for this lucky customer. Gone is the 6.5L, replaced with an LMM-based Duramax packing more than enough power to motivate the hefty Hummer along. A set of 60-percent over injectors from S&S Diesel Motorsport, a 5-blade Stainless Diesel VGT, and fine-tuning from MTKB Racing sum up the list of well-placed upgrades. A factory Duramax ECU integrates seamlessly with a Power Tune Digital dash—a plug-and-play OBD system with inputs for multiple data points (scaled with both 5-and-12-volt references). Customized from top to bottom, and inside-out, it’s the ultimate H1.

Stock Turbo L5P Duramax Goes Low 11’s

Chevrolet Silverado Diesel Truck Duramax L5P 4x4 Drag Race Stock Turbo

Delaney’s Diesel has been making moves lately, and their most recent headline comes from a trip to Cecil County Dragway with a stock turbo L5P Duramax. While there, Logan Kuhrmann’s full weight and interior, crew cab short bed ripped through the quarter-mile in 11.35 seconds and covered the eighth in 7.24 seconds on the same pass. That’s roughly 1,000 horsepower at the wheels—all squeezed through the factory 61mm turbo. To get there, the stock internal L5P was graced with a 12mm CP3, 100-percent over injectors, and a healthy shot of nitrous (courtesy of a .105 jet). The late-model Silverado is backed by a built Allison. Check out the team’s full trip to the track here. With a simple turbo change, you’ll be able to find this truck living in the 10’s.

American Pride Wins On The Fourth Of July

Cummins Triple Turbo Scheid Diesel Billet Aluminum Engine Super Stock 4x4 Truck

How fitting is it that Keith Witt’s “American Pride” won the Super Stock class on Independence Day? It all made perfect sense, and happened at the Junction Town Showdown in Osceola, Iowa. The Pro Pulling League affair commenced at the Clarke County Fairgrounds Friday night, with Keith’s Scheid Diesel-built, triple-turbo Cummins digging its way past Kent Crowder’s 335.43-foot, Second Place distance on a 339-foot pass. Terry Biggs’ “Deadpull” was right there in the thick of things as well (with a Third Place, 335.04-foot effort), and “Rock Hard Ram,” “Cream Of The Crop,” and “Caretaker” all turned in solid hooks behind them.

Off-The-Shelf Ported 7.3L Heads

7.3 Powerstroke Diesel Ported Cylinder Heads Competition Engine Parts Kill Devil Diesel

For the first time ever, off-the-shelf ported 7.3L Power Stroke heads are available—and it’s all thanks to Kill Devil Diesel. The company’s new Delta Series CNC ported heads were developed using the same CFD modeling that produced its Icon 6.0L and 6.4L ported heads, and they’re built from genuine factory castings. The heads offer 40-percent more airflow than stock (per Kill Devil’s SuperFlow SF-1020 flow bench testing), have proven capable of adding up to 50 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque (per independent DynoJet 224XLC chassis dyno testing), provide lower EGT, and offer quicker spool up. The 5-axis CNC ported heads also come with stainless steel injector cups (as opposed to brass), stainless nitrided valves, HD valve seats and guides, and beehive valve springs.
