The Race To 4,000-rwhp—Is Over!
Josh McCormack becomes diesel’s new dyno king and the first to 4,000hp, JH Diesel & 4×4 impresses at Mid Michigan Mayhem, and ODSS racers invade the NHRDA World Finals.
It’s been a big year for Josh McCormack. First, he won U.C.C. and now he owns the record for highest horsepower. At the Diesels In The Mountain event over the weekend, and while strapped to the industry-standard, Northwest Dyno Series SuperFlow chassis dyno, Josh’s ’07 Dodge cleared an unreal 4,157 hp at the rear wheels. What’s more is that he did it on a cast-iron 6.7L Cummins block. In an effort to avoid the danger zone, Josh’s perfectly timed hit on the rollers limited peak torque to 4,484 lb-ft (made above 4,000 rpm). The record-setting 4,157 hp figure was achieved at 4,900 rpm—and power appeared to still be climbing…
The Path To 4,000+ HP

Josh McCormack’s horsepower recipe revolves around the use of a set of 6.7L body injectors from Dynomite Diesel Products, dual Exergy Performance Alpha 550 CP3’s, an Exergy-calibrated Bosch MS25 stand-alone ECU, and a garage-built 48RE packing a WP Developments torque converter. Precise introduction of nitrous then pushed things over the top, and then some, with a boatload of available fuel (680 mg) being completely cleaned up.. Need more proof that Josh wears a cape? He built his truck from the ground up in his driveway in Southern California. That’s all the inspiration most of us need to get started on our own projects.

The J&H Square Body Lays Down Just Shy Of 1,500 HP

If ever there was a fan favorite in the diesel industry, it would be Justin Hildebrand’s old-school Chevy. Square body, common-rail Cummins swap, Interco Super Swamper TSL boggers… Justin and the crew from JH Diesel & 4×4 hit the rollers at Mid Michigan Mayhem over the weekend. On fuel, the crowd-pleasing Bow Tie produced 1,089 hp and 1,461 lb-ft of torque. Then, with a bit of nitrous in play, the truck’s numbers ballooned to 1,470 hp and 2,000 lb-ft. After that, and in true J&H fashion, the boggers were bolted back in place out back and the truck made a trip to Michigan’s Silver Lake Sand Dunes to play near the beach…

Blessed Performance Takes Ownership Of NHRDA

There have been a host of developments in Ennis, Texas the past few days. In addition to the top-tier drag racing taking place at the NHRDA World Finals, Blessed Performance was finalizing its deal to take ownership of the storied racing organization. From being a presenting sponsor for the Ultimate Callout Challenge to making its mobile dyno available all across the country to this key acquisition of the NHRDA, Blessed Performance has become a major player in the diesel industry—and we have a feeling they’re just getting started. Look for Blessed Performance owner, Matt Story, to rejuvenate the organization, build off of its existing legacy, and even spread NHRDA racing eastward.

ODSS Racers Make A Statement At Texas Motorplex

Invitation accepted. Goal achieved. With the ODSS season in the books, many series racers accepted the invite to trek down to Ennis, Texas for the NHRDA World Finals. In every category they entered other than Super Diesel (7.70 Index), the ODSS drivers left with trophies. In Sportsman (ET Bracket), Keith Languell took the win in his 6.7L Power Stroke (and third in Super Diesel/7.70). In 6.70 Index, and fresh off of earning his second consecutive 6.70 championship with ODSS, the lights-out Jeremy Stickney took home the W. In Super Street (5.90 Index), Nathan Bandstra’s big-boost Duramax got the win, and even put the formidable Brett Marcum on the trailer in Round 1. The remaining winners included Wade Minter (Pro Mod), Phillip Franklin (Pro Street), Ryan Harmon (Super Diesel/7.70), James Holbert (Big Rig Bracket), and Oscar Valesquez (Hot Rod Semi).

WC Fab’s Short Bed Silverado Digs Deeper Into The 10’s

We took in some quarter-mile drag racing at northern Illinois’ Byron Dragway on Saturday. While we were there, we caught up with the folks at Wehrli Custom Fabrication and the drag-and-drive truck they acquired over the winter. Trying out a lower stall converter, their compound turbo’d, LB7 Duramax-powered RWD Silverado knocked three tenths off of its previous best, making a 10.34-second pass through the 1320. Other highlights included ODSS 5.70 Index driver, Christian Wichman, showing up and making a 9-second pass, and a sleeper 12-valve—complete with a camper shell—running 10s. Stay tuned for full coverage from our trip to Byron later this week.
