Mission 4,000 HP: Greg A’s Billet-Aluminum Cummins Is Coming

Greg A.’s all-aluminum Cummins, the latest 6.70 Index racer, a 4BT tucked into a Jeep CJ, and we take a trip to The Pullers Championship.

When you’ve already cleared 3,300 hp on the rollers, what’s next? 3,500 hp or pull out all the stops and go for 4K? Judging by Greg A.’s latest build—and with U.C.C. right around the corner‚ we think he’s on a mission to hit 4,000 hp. This silver bullet was pieced together by Greg’s friends at Freedom Racing Engines and sports a billet-aluminum block from Fleece Performance Engineering along with a billet-aluminum Wagler head. If we’ve noticed one trend from Greg A. in recent years, it’s that he’s gotten progressively quicker through the eighth-mile and made more power (year-over-year) on the dyno at U.C.C. Look for him to go from third to First Place on the rollers in Indy, and push even deeper in the 5’s through the ‘660.

Third Gen Cummins Dodge Quad Cab Diesel Race Truck Single Turbo

From oil leak repair to 6.70 Index truck…Rowdy’s Automotive & Motorsports is officially in the race truck building business. When Steve Robbins brought a work truck to Brad Helton (owner of Rowdy’s Automotive) to fix a little drip-drip, he spotted Brad’s 1,500hp 6.7L Power Stroke-powered Ford and promptly decided to sell the mule and go diesel drag racing. Long story short, Steve ended up with a crew cab third-gen Cummins that cleared 1,230 hp on the chassis dyno at Firepunk Diesel and that he plans to compete with in the Outlaw Diesel Super Series’ 6.70 Index class. The icing on the cake came last Friday when, looking only to top a 10.90 (the quickest he’d ever been), Steve’s Dodge ran a 10.43-second quarter-mile.

4BT Jeep CJ

Jeep CJ Cummins Conversion 4BT Diesel Engine Big Bear

As a high volume remanufacturer of 6BT and 4BT Cummins engines, Big Bear Engine Company has a huge network of customers—and many of them are off-roaders looking for supreme reliability. Nathan Wardwell opted for a 140 hp version of Big Bear’s extended long block 4BT (called its 4BTAA140 HP), dropped it into a Jeep CJ and parked a Tremec TR4050 five-speed manual transmission behind it. A Behemoth Colossus 300 transfer case and a Strongbox doubler got the nod as well, along with fully boxing in the frame. Three years in the making, Nathan’s CJ is ready to hit the road, and the trails.

The Pullers Championship

Super Stock Diesel 4x4 Truck Dodge Ram 2500 Triple Turbo Cummins

Torrential rainfall, pea-size hail, and gusting winds might’ve delayed the start of The Pullers Championship, but it did not fail to deliver loads of entertainment. The fourth annual, two-night pulling affair, held at The Track At Holzhauers, brought 10 high-caliber Super Stock Diesel Trucks to Nashville, Illinois. On night one, Cummins Killer III stole the show with a wild midnight ride of 337 feet and change. On night two, Marshall DeBroux piloted the Flam-A-Bull Dodge to a win and a healthy $5,000 payday. The Pullers Championship would also host a slew of tractor classes, including Pro Stock and Diesel Super Stock, of which the legendary Esdon Lehn made an appearance (aboard Red Line Fever). Stay tuned for a full recap from The Track At Holzhauers in the days ahead…

Open House, Dyno Day and Truck Pull At Dan’s Diesel Performance

Second Gen Cummins Dodge Ram Diesel Truck Pull Dual Rear Wheel Turbo

Dan’s Diesel Performance played host to its first annual open house over the weekend, with a show ‘n shine, dyno competition, and truck pulls all on the docket. With every dyno slot and pulling class booked prior to the event, you could say their inaugural affair was highly anticipated and well-attended. At least nine trucks were in four-digit horsepower territory or higher on the rollers and heavy hitters like DHD even made the call, bringing Last Minute Hooker to the show, complete with its triple-turbo arrangement in place. In the dirt, Stock, Workstock, Hot Street, and Run What Ya Brung classes were held. Chad Harbison got the win in the latter category behind the wheel of his second-gen Cummins coined “Stimulus Package” (shown). He took home a hefty $5,000 for his efforts.

Thoroughbred Diesel Throwdown

Third Gen Cummins Diesel Dodge Ram Dyno Competition Thoroughbred Throwdown

With the industry standard, Northwest Dyno Series SuperFlow on hand, the Thoroughbred Diesel Throwdown has become an annual pre-game party of sorts for the U.C.C. event that follows. In 2025, and in addition to Thoroughbred’s usual collection of top industry vendors and a sprawling show ‘n shine, David Petrick stole the show on the rollers. His third-gen would clear 2,431 hp and 3,362 lb-ft of torque before all was said and done, laying claim to the top spot in the Unlimited dyno competition category. UCC competitor Patrick Brown was on hand as well, putting his VP44-fueled Cummins to the test on the same dyno he’ll be up against in just two more weeks.
