DHD Team Gets The Well-Deserved Victory At U.C.C.—And It’s A First For The Duramax

2006 Chevrolet Silverado Duramax Diesel Drag Race

A hard, boosted four-wheel drive launch yields lost traction and a front-tire smoke show on this attempt at a 4-second pass from the DHD Pro Street Duramax diesel.

Not a blown-up engine nor a brush with the wall could keep Tony Burkhard and the Dirty Hooker Diesel (DHD) team from pulling off the inevitable. Over the weekend, the crew from Harbor Beach, Michigan finally broke through at the diesel industry’s premiere event, claiming First Place at the Ultimate Callout Challenge. If you’ve spent any amount of time following this team of Duramax die-hards, you know they’ve been competing, “iron-man” style, for several years now (running the ODSS Pro Street class in addition to competing in U.C.C.’s grueling drag race, dyno and sled pull events). For 2023, the win was well-deserved.

All-Billet Duramax

So what makes the DHD truck tick? It starts with a billet block Duramax that benefits from a mix of SoCal Diesel, Wagler Competition Products and Diamond Racing hard parts, along with ARP fasteners throughout. The fuel system boasts Exergy Performance stroker CP3’s (gear-driven off the billet front cover) and huge injectors (think 400-percent over nozzles, if not larger…). Engine tuning comes by way of a Bosch Motorsport stand-alone ECM while a massive (106mm) T6 foot, Precision turbo supported by dual 45mm wastegates provides plenty of airflow. Sprinkle in some nitrous and back it all up with a TH400 from Rossler Transmissions and you begin to see why the truck is capable of running 4’s in the eighth-mile, makes 2,300-plus horsepower on the chassis dyno, and leads the pack in the dirt.

Surviving The Game

At U.C.C. 2023, the DHD team turned in a 5.31-second eighth-mile effort prior to the truck’s brush with the wall. Good enough for Second Place. On the rollers, the truck laid down a third-best number of 2,379 hp. Then on Day 3 the crew settled in for their bread-and-butter event, the sled pull, where the Chevy proceeded to take the iron sleigh for a 308-foot ride. Good enough for Third Place. The combined points from those finishes landed them the overall win. The victory marks the first time a Duramax—or any V-8, for that matter—has bested the Cummins competition at this ragged-edge event, and it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving group of people.
