Justin Zeigler Vs Austin Doidge Cummins Grudge Diesel Drag Race

New personal bests, a wild grudge race, and an unforgettable finish in Pro Street help sum up what was one of the most exciting weekends of diesel drag racing in 2024. Top highlights from the Snyder Performance Engineering Outlaw Finals in New Alexandria, Pennsylvania include Paul Vasko’s billet Duramax-powered rail blasting through the eighth-mile in 3.90 seconds at 185 mph, the Scheid Diesel dragster finally breaking into the 3’s with a 3.93 at 193 mph, and two of the most dramatic side-by-side truck races we’ve ever seen. In Friday night’s bout for the S&S grudge belt, Justin Zeigler’s Pro Street Dodge edged Austin Doidge’s Pro Mod second-gen by a 0.021-second margin. Less than 24 hours later in the Pro Street finale, Paul Cato returned the favor, beating Justin by an unreal 0.0008-second margin of victory, earning his first Pro Street championship in the process.

Dodge Ram Cummins Diesel Drag Race 5.90 Index

In addition to a host of personal bests, unbelievably tight heads-up races, and no shortage of nail-biters throughout the index classes, it was a weekend of determining who brought home each ODSS championship. As was alluded to earlier, the Pro Street points chase came down to First Place Paul Cato vs. Second Place Justin Zeigler, and Paul coming out on top in captivating fashion. In Pro Mod, Firepunk Diesel’s Larson Miller took the win over Austin Doidge, which also completed the team’s come-from-behind earning of the class title. Pro Dragster would see Scheid Diesel get the W over Paul Vasko, Brett Marcum secured his second win of the year (along with the championship) in 5.90 Index, and Jesse Pittman sewed up back-to-back event wins in 6.70. Tyler Stacy would also earn his second event win in a row in 7.70 Index, while “hot-lapping” Neal Nissen left PA with the W in ET Bracket.

There’s a 6.00 Index class coming to No Mercy 15, and diesels are invited (and highly encouraged) to come out and play. Daniel Moon (shown) is one of several compression-ignition competitors locked in to race at South Georgia Motorsports Park October 10-13. The class, which pays $2,000 to the winner, allows any door car on any tire to sign up—and we’re told the entry list is thick with diesels. With thousands of spectators in the stands and thousands more watching the live stream, the Hot Shot’s Secret 6.0 Index class, presented by Pro Wire, represents yet another way to get diesel drag racing on display in front of the masses.

Freshly wrapped now, Wyatt Stengel has turned his attention back to settling the chassis down on his Pro Street GMC—and it’s working. There is no more bounce on the launch and the truck is short-tracking like it’s on a mission. Over the weekend, Wyatt’s Exergy-fueled, LB7 Duramax-powered (and 4L80E-shifted) ’70 K1500 ran what he called a “casual” 8.47-second quarter-mile at 154 mph right off the trailer. That’s 5.30s in eighth-mile speak. Wyatt’s garage-built K15 operates out of the BoostedBoiz stable, a million-plus subscriber YouTube platform that’s proven tremendous for showcasing what a modern diesel power plant is capable of.

A New LML Duramax King

LML Duramax Diesel Drag Race Record Time Slip Elapsed Time

Not a minute after bringing you the scoop on Michael Lively’s LML Duramax record last week, we got word that Michael Carrasco had already reset the mark to beat. Michael’s late-model Silverado put up a 6.31 at 113 mph through the eighth, as well as a 9.81-second ET at 141 mph in the quarter-mile. His LML sports a set of Exergy Performance 200-percent over injectors and one of the company’s 14mm race series CP3’s, a pair of FASS lift pumps, and a compound arrangement that uses a 78mm turbo in the valley and a mammoth-sized 106mm GT55 as the atmosphere unit. Michael tells us his record-setting pass was made on a tune that called for just 1,450 microseconds worth of injector duration. Needless to say, there is more left in the tank.

If you thought what happened to Randy Reyes’ Red Delicious Cummins at UCC was crazy, here is your “hold my beer” moment. Over the weekend, the Randy’s Transmissions crew decided to push things as far as possible, split the block at the cam tunnel, and nearly sent the top-half of the sleeved and deck-plated Cummins into orbit. Rest assured, no one was hurt (notice the destroyed firewall and the partial view into the truck’s interior) and Randy’s has a billet block engine on the way, so think of it as more of a going away party… For a multi-angle view of the melee that occurred, click here.
