Will This Truck Reset The 4×4 Diesel Record?

A veteran drag racer takes aim at the 1/8-mile 4×4 diesel record, Quality Diesel Performance hosts its annual dyno day and show ‘n shine, and a 48-hour OBS Ford build.

Dodge Cummins 4x4 Diesel Pro Mod Second Gen Ram

Austin Doidge has set his sights high, and he’s pulling out all the stops to go after Derek Rose’s 4×4 diesel record (a 4.41-second eighth-mile at 170+ mph). To get there, Austin has placed his second-gen under the knife again, this time for chassis updates aimed at taking the truck from 4.7’s to 4.4’s in the ‘660, if not quicker. Austin is hoping to have the truck ready for Ultimate Callout Challenge in Indy at the end of the month where, in addition to digging deeper into the 4’s, he’ll look to improve on an already wild personal best 60-foot of 1.17 seconds. Austin is also going to chase the record with a cast-iron block Enforcer series Cummins from D&J Precision Machine.

Second Gen Cummins VP44 Truck Show Quality Diesel Performance

Quality Diesel Performance’s annual dyno day and show ‘n shine continues to grow each year, and dozens of trucks made the call for their annual truck show over the weekend. Among them was Michael Asher’s immaculate ‘01 Dodge shown here, which took top honors in the “Best Old School” category. The day’s heaviest hitters on the dyno were Kory Ledbetter, whose ’06 Cummins laid down 1,163 hp and 2,131 lb-ft and won the Modified Dodge category, Josh Ruble, who cleared 1,152 hp and 1,940 lb-ft with his ’07 Dodge, and Kade Gaither, the owner of the ’06 Duramax that turned out 1,110 hp and 1,819 lb-ft and won Modified Chevy.

OBS Addiction

OBS Ford F250 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel Truck Crew Cab Short Bed

Young, full of ambition, and OBS obsessed, Christian Brezik doesn’t waste time when it comes to his trucks. After an unfortunate wreck took his ’96 F-250 off the road a little more than a month ago, he’s already back in the saddle in the form of this ultra-clean crew cab short bed. In a single weekend, Christian and his friends at The Diesel Source had a new 7.3L Power Stroke under the hood, painted and insulated the cab and engine bay, installed fresh suspension, painted the frame,  re-loomed and re-routed the wiring harnesses, added a host of go-fast goodies, and installed a set of JTX Forged wheels. Not bad for a 48-hour build!

Adrenaline Outlaw R100+ Diesel Race Fuel

Hot Shots Secret Adrenaline Outlaw R100+ Diesel Race Fuel

It was only a matter of time before Hot Shot’s Secret developed a diesel race fuel. The company’s Adrenaline Outlaw R100+ diesel racing fuel is designed for use in sled pulling, drag racing, dyno competitions and any other form of motorsport where peak horsepower is vital. Outlaw R100+ begins life with a base fuel distillation specified by the Hot Shot’s Secret team and is treated to a proprietary mix of cetane improver, which serves to aid turbo spool time, maximize combustion efficiency, and even smooths out pressure peaks within your engine’s cylinders. Hot Shot’s new race fuel also makes use of its Racing Top Lubricant, an upper cylinder formula designed to reduce scuffing, improve ring seal, and reduce friction at the cylinder wall-to piston ring interface.

Congress Moves To Repeal Excessive NOx Standards From Taking Effect In California

House Of Representative CARS Act Passage

The U.S. House of Representatives recently voted to revoke ultra-low NOx standard and zero emission vehicle (ZEV) implementation waivers granted by the EPA to the state of California. The former waiver permitted to the California Air Resources Board would allow CARB to enforce the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus Regulation, a rule requiring a further 90-percent decrease in NOx emissions from heavy-duty on-highway diesel engines that would be phased in between 2024 and 2031. The second waiver allowed CARB to implement the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) rule, a regulation that established a mandatory schedule for the sale of ZEV’s. If allowed to stand, the ACT rule would require that 55-percent of new Class 2B-3 vehicles, 75-percent of new Class 4-8 vehicles, and 40-percent of new Class 7-8 tractors are ZEV’s by 2035.
