1/8-Mile Annihilator: JDB Diesel Performance’s 6.7L PSD Goes Deep 5’s

New 6.7L Power Stroke and L5P Duramax records, maxing out the dyno at TSD, new VP44 tech, and further ammo for rolling back emission standards.

When it comes to pushing the vertical limits of the 6.7L Power Stroke and the 6R140 Torqshift, Jimmy Dallaire Beauchemin is in a league of his own. Last week, he sent the JDB Diesel Performance F-250 deep into the 5’s and established a new record for both. The new 1/8-mile mark to beat for a 6.7L Power Stroke with four-wheel drive now stands at 5.49 seconds—and the truck has been as fast as 139 mph… Ever since switching to a MoTeC stand-alone ECU with S&S firmware (which complements the Kill Devil Diesel built V-8’s S&S fuel system), Jimmy and his team have been more determined than ever to push the 6.7L Power Stroke to new heights.

Meet The Fastest L5P Duramax In The World

The same weekend Jimmy Dallaire Beauchemin reset the 6.7L Power Stroke 1/8-mile record, the JDB Diesel Performance crew had a hand in Jonathan Turmel’s record-setting efforts. Thanks to putting up a blazing 5.88-second pass at 123 mph, Jonathan’s GMC Sierra is now the quickest L5P Duramax in the world. With new injectors, a fresh CP3, and a few adjustments, everything came together in relative short order—and it looks like much more is on tap for this regular cab, short bed GMC. With plenty of summer left on the calendar, don’t be surprised if these crazy Canadians set the 6.7L PSD and L5P bars even higher in the months ahead.

On The Rollers

Dustin Sterling’s No-Prep Duramax Maxes Out The TSD Dynojet

Some trucks are simply animals. After addressing the engine issues suffered at Outlaw Diesel Revenge, the winged, no-prep Silverado from Sterling Diesel Performance is back in action with a billet Duramax under the hood. Running the same tune-up from UCC, the truck maxed out the dyno at Truck Source Diesel—and tried to jump off the rollers at the same time (video). With an upcoming race in Mexico and big payouts on the line this fall, look for SDP’s rowdy Chevrolet to be back in the news soon. Who knows, owner and driver Dustin Sterling may even reclaim the 1/8-mile ET and/or trap speed record for a 4×4 Duramax…

Old Tech, New Tricks

Stand-Alone Control For The VP44

WP Developments is dusting off the VP44/stand-alone ECU project the ’98.5-’02 Cummins market has been praying for. A Baldur’s Control Systems stand-alone ECU (DID1) will be employed, and a complete ECU swap package is expected (i.e. no more need to run a tuner). As far as availability goes, that is still to be determined. But rumor has it the team is ready for first startup, followed by extensive testing. Expanded fueling and (especially) rpm limits are something the VP44 crowd is always hungry for. Once it’s available, we fully expect new records to be set by those running it.

The Push For A Rollback To Tier 2 Standards

Diesel Dpf Exhaust Fluid Emissions Tier 2 Rollback Class 8 Trucks Epa

PPEI’s Kory Willis has been dropping truth bombs left and right lately, and this one is relatable to every working American. Beyond the fact that 2007-later emissions regulations may not even be needed, Willis tackled the economic impact of rolling things back to Tier 2 (pre-DPF and pre-DEF) standards. Middle income families in the U.S. would save $3,300 per year on average, while upper class families would save approximately $9,900. Think about it. All of those DPF and DEF-related system failures are currently being paid for and passed on to you, the consumer. With simplified, Tier 2 compliant trucks hauling our goods, it would mean less fuel consumption, no DEF consumption, and more reliable transportation of freight—and that means cheaper goods and more money in your pocket.
